My progress in plumbing the veritable depths of the Unity development system (using engine to describe it might be passé) has been more rapid than I initially expected. Using a combination of old-school billboarding techniques and point n’ click charm: I’m going to adapt a vision. One that, I’ve had for quite a long time. The game will render out as a mildly simple experience, but the inner-workings will be fairly complex compared to most of what classically exists within the realm of “video games”. I have this feeling I am not unique in this department of late, with many of the popular indie (oxymoron? heh, no) titles displaying…
…dramatic themes and emotions. Alas! I march on; I will bring my vision to life. Now the work is to coerce the complex imaginings of my brain into the space of a limited “interactive experience.” Daunting. This is where the speed and grace of my newly adopted development system come into play. To paraphrase, “This is f*cking sweet.” Most of the hard-coding is now completed thanks in part to the flexibility of being able to use Javascript, C#, and Boo – essentially side by side. I’m left with more serious aesthetic and story choices. Which honestly leaves me at a crossroads, and as I’m forced to make such difficult decisions I find a dreamy idea taking physical shape. Awesome.
